La Atalaya

La Atalaya (The Watchtower) is a cozy secret cove very close to the urban center of Ribadesella, and undoubtedly one of the most magical places in the area. Another beautiful beach, not only famous in our area, but in the entire Cantabrian region, is Playa de Santa Marina, also known as “Playa de los Picos de Europa”.

The room which bears this name has been inspired by traditional marine life and the sea. The art of fishing played a very important role in the local economy. Much of it was based on the highly prized angulas (baby eels) from the Sella River, which were sold at the local fishing port and processed by reputable Albo Conservas cannery.

Here you can see traditional fishing nets adorning the walls and a vintage Cañavera fishing rod, which is a family heirloom. The headboards represent the old port walls, before they were replaced by more modern ones.
